Chicken Plate @ Pepe's
|
Place: Pepe's
Location: Several, but Jason and I used to frequent the Fullerton & Brea locations
Website: http://www.pepesmexicanfood.com/
Jason and I discovered Pepe's while living in Fullerton. At the time, our apartment was really close to a Pepe's and we would often drive by and think.... "hmmm... that place looks like it's either really bad or a whole in the wall that is actually really good." It was years before we tried it because we leaned toward the first statement. I don't know why weren't savvy enough to yelp anything back then, but we sure missed out.
Especially since no sooner than we discovered Pepe's, we soon moved to Los Angeles & we are no longer close to a Pepe's.
The first time we tried it, we were hooked. Pepe's is really good and cheap mexican food. Simple as that. In fact, as far as we both are concerned, it's the best mexican food we've ever had. And the portions and prices are insane. Honestly, I'm trying to add some more words here so you get the real deal lowdown on this place, but it's just really good and cheap mexican food. Plain as that. No place in Los Angeles, sit down or take out has been able to rival Pepe's so far. So you should just go & take my word. Go. Now!
I have a few favorite dishes: the small chicken taco salad, (which comes with shredded lettuce, chicken, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, chips and fresh salsa) and if I'm really hungry the chicken plate (which comes with chicken, rice & beans, guacamole, salsa and tortillas on the side). Jason's favorite, on the other hand, is the chicken quesadilla with both red sauce & green sauce. As you can see from the pictures, the quesadilla looks more like a burrito. It's huge!
So if you're in the SoCal area at all, I suggest you run to this place. Literally run! Now! It'll make you feel less guilty when you eat a giant chicken quesadilla!
